"My Unity Place"

Jen Buck Simple Scrapbook Tutorial

Welcome to my first Simple Scrapbook tutorial. We are going to be using one of my Clean & Simple sketches for this layout. To start my layout I first chose a picture. I chose one from a few days ago of my son swinging. I LOVE this picture. His face is priceless! Take a peek....

I love scrapbooking. I love that it's something I have to keep when I am finished creating but I hate if it takes me hours to finish. I secretly wish that a layout came together as quickly as a card. Since it doesn't I take some steps to try to reduce the time spent creating. One way to accomplish this is to work with a sketch. Another is to pick out my paper and embellishments before I sit down. The sketch for this layout came after I picked the paper and embellishments. For this layout I picked the paper and found key pieces that I thought would work with the picture and then played around with them until they 'fit'.

Here's a list of the supplies used for this layout: 1.) Unity Stamp Co. May KOTM 2.) Bazzill textured card stock Candy Apple 3.) Crate Paper Orbit patterned paper and paper piece 4.) Copic Markers R05, Y21, E49 5.) Bazzill In Stitchz: Circle template, pomegranate string 6.) Chipboard Flourish 7.) buttons 8.) Clean & Simple scrapbook sketch Take a peek at the sketch:

1.) Since we are working with a sketch this will go together really quickly. First I adhered the patterned paper from Crate Paper to the red 12X12 card stock. I trimed the excess with my scissors.

2.) Next I glued my photo to the page. At this point you may want to 'mat' your picture. I am opted to stitch around mine so I am adhering it straight to the patterned paper.

3.) Next up I'm going to stamp my images directly onto the page. I like to use a stamp positioner for this. You simply line up a clear sheet with a positioning tool and then stamp your image by lining it up with the corner of the tool....

4.) At this point you can take your clear sheet and position it on your page to make sure that you stamp right where you want to.

5.) Now to stitch around the photo to really showcase the picture. I used my Bazzill In Stitchz for this. First I pierced holes around the picture using the square template as a guide...

Then I sewed in the holes.....

EPLS. One little trick from my cross stitch days. If you take a longer piece of thread and double it over......

You can loop the needle through the 'hole' the thread makes and not have to tie it to start.

I LOVE this trick! EPLS (easy peasy lemon squeezy!) 6.) Next up add the embellishments. First up for me was a chipboard flourish. Since I couldn't find a brown one in the shape that I wanted, I colored mine with my copic markers. So that this, with the help from my E49 marker....

Became this....

Simply add glue dots and adhere to page. 7.) Next up add my title. To keep it simple, and because it was the perfect sentiment for this page!, I used one of the precut pieces from the Crate Paper paper package. I added pop up glue dots to give it a bit more dimension and then put a button on either end for interest.

8.) Now to finish up my dragonflies. I stamped them on a sheet of white card stock and then colored the wings. For this I used my Y21 and R05 copic marker. First color the wings with the Y21 marker.

Then add a little R05...

and blend with the Y21 marker.

Next up, cut out the wings and apply to the stamped image on the page with a small glue dot.

Finished! Here's a shot of the finished layout....
